Celebrating the 25th of March with Free Admission to the Athens Acropolis Museum

The Acropolis Museum will offer free admission to the general public from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday 25 March in celebration of an annual national holiday.

Celebrating the 25th of March as a historical and a religious holiday.  The War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire between 1821 and 1830. The “Greek Revolution” was a successful war of independence by the Greek revolutionaries.  Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Annunciation by Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she should become the mother of Jesus Christ the Son of God. 25th March marks exactly nine months before Christmas.

The day will be celebrated with presentations on the Parthenon, during which visitors will have the opportunity to discuss the monument’s architecture, display, symbolism, sculptures and history with the museum’s archaeologists.

The presentations will be held in French at 11am, in the Greek language at 12pm and finally in English at 1pm.  Each presentation will last 50 minutes with a maximum of 30 visitors per group.  On the same day, the restaurant on the second floor of the museum will offer visitors “Greek traditional dishes.”
