Announced on March 20th by the European Commission and Europa Nostra, the 27 laureates, selected from 160 nominated projects across 30 countries, are honored for achievements in four areas: conservation; research; dedicated service; education, training and awareness-raising. (more…)

Acropolis-restoration

The Acropolis Restoration Project received two awards this year from the Europa Nostra for the following:

The project Restoration of the upper structure of the main building of the Propylaea was awarded in Category 1 – Conservation

Also, the Acropolis Restoration Committee received an award for its contribution to the work carried out on the monuments in Category 3 – Dedicated Service.

This double award by Europa Nostra is very significant, especially at a time when we stand in need of hope and optimism. (more…)

PROPYLAEA CENTRAL BUILDING, ACROPOLIS - PRIZE FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION 2013 dPROPYLAEA CENTRAL BUILDING, ACROPOLIS
The Propylaea is the monumental gateway to the Acropolis, built 437-432 BC. It consists of a central building with two lateral wings and Doric facades facing east and west. The superstructure of the central building was extensively but inadequately restored in 1909/17, using iron. (more…)
